RESISTANT TO OXIDATION OR THERMAL BREAKDOWN TO 260oC OR HIGHER

Components of this grease are non-flammable and completely resistant to oxygen. No gumming or sludging. Thermal breakdown does not occur below 300oC.

CHEMICALLY-RESISTANT

This grease permits longer exposure to non-fluorinated aggressive chemicals than do traditional chlorofluorocarbon or fluorosilicone-based greases.

THE SUPERIOR STABILITY OF THE FLUORINATED ETHERS

The most impressive thermally and oxidatively stable synthetic fluids presently available are a series of completely fluorinated polyethers with distinctive properties of high specific gravity, low surface tension, inertness toward most plastics and elastomers, immiscibility with all except highly fluorinated solvents and inertness toward normally destructive chemicals.

When gelled with extremely stable, chemically inert fluorocarbon polymers, the resulting greases afford an unparalleled capability for extreme environment lubrication.

PROPERTIES OF GEL-02

The base fluid for ULTRA GEL - 02 shows no thermal degradation in air temperatures below 300oC or in inert environments (N2) at temperatures below 350oC.

The base oil is a relatively high viscosity (345cSt at 40oC) fluoroether oil. It has a wide temperature range, with a pour point of -25oC and volatility of 0.5% in 24 hours at 150oC. The molecule consists only of carbon, fluorine, and oxygen atoms. Because of its high fluorine content it has a relatively high density. One gallon of the base oil would weigh almost 16 pounds (1 gallon H2O= 8 pounds).

The fluorocarbon gelling agent melts at roughly the thermal degradation point of the base oil (between 285o C and 315oC) and thus does not compromise the high temperature capability of the finished grease. The grease is an excellent lubricant even under boundary or extreme pressure conditions.

USE OF ULTRA GEL - 02 AS A CHEMICALLY RESISTANT SEALANT

Being completely fluorinated, fluoroether greases such as ULTRA GEL - 02 are chemically inert to most aggressive and reactive chemicals, as fluorine, chlorine, bromine, strong acids and bases, and oxidizers, even at high temperatures. They are insoluble in all except highly fluorinated solvents. They are non-flammable and can be used in direct contact with oxygen at temperatures to 260oC and at pressures to 6800 kPa.

A grease with chemical resistance of this superior nature could serve a variety of difficult sealant needs, as in valves, stopcocks, and ground glass fittings in laboratory glassware assemblies. ULTRA GEL - 02

is recommended for problem applications where traditional stopcock greases have given marginal results or provide less-than-optimum service life. Equipment handling nitrous and nitric oxides, halogens, chlorine trifluoride and other reactive, corrosive, acid, alkaline and oxidizing chemicals can be lubricated with this grease. The grease would, however, be decomposed by halogenated Lewis acids, such as AIC13, SbF5, and CoF3.
